1. PAUSE + SCRIPTURE
Pause as you begin this experience. Quiet the room, your heart, and simply pray, “Holy Spirit Come” to invite God’s presence.
Read these scriptures to help open your heart towards praise and worship! Click the scriptures to read on You Version.
Response: What word, phrase, or verse stands out to you from the Psalm 27 or 1 Chronicles passage? Why?
If you’re with others discuss the question.
If you’re alone reflect or even take a moment to journal a few thoughts.
2. WORSHIP + MESSAGE
BEFORE BREAKTHROUGH
What is before breakthrough? In this message we consider what a story in Acts 16 can teach us about breakthrough. We all need it, whether we know it or not.

3. GO DEEPER
REFLECT DEEPER WITH THE 3 KEY POINTS FROM THE MESSAGE
1. WE MUST PRAISE BEFORE WE PLEAD.
This is the central theme of this story in Acts 16. We don’t see Paul and Silas distraught and pleading with God and the jailers for their release. No they are praying and singing hymns! We praise before the breakthrough. When we praise before, during, and after the storm then the object of our attention is what we praise rather than the storm we are in or even the breakthrough we seek.
How could praising before the breakthrough change the way you pray and worship? How could the focus of your attention shift? Do you need your attention to shift to praise?
2. WE MUST LISTEN BEFORE WE’RE FREE.
In Acts:25, “the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a violent earthquake.” Sometimes we want God to move and set us free from the struggle we are facing, but we are too busy talking about our problems, too busy trying to create the solutions ourselves that we don’t simply stop and listen. We can do this by listening to the praises of his people or doing our best to listen to our Heavenly Father in prayer or through his word. The prisoners weren’t ready to praise, but they were ready to listen! Perhaps this is where you are…and you need a heavy dose of listening.
This week try to spend extra time listening to worship and allow you heart to be filled with praise. Really try and listen to the words of the songs and let them enter your heart in a fresh way. If you need some songs, scroll down to see our worship videos. If you want to listen to our Spotify playlist click here.
3. WE MUST BELIEVE BEFORE WE ARE CHANGED.
The jailer in Acts 16 took extra measures to ensure Paul and Silas were getting the full miserable jailing experience. Later in the story after Paul and Silas praised, and after the earthquake came and everyone’s chains fell off the jailer woke up and the tables had turned and he said, “Sirs what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.” Then in verse 34 it says that “he was filled with JOY because he came to believe in God.”
The breakthrough we seek doesn’t alway come just for us. When we praise before our breakthrough who knows what God may do. It’s one of the great parts of this story. The breakthrough wasn’t just for Paul and Silas. It was for all the prisoners listening…and even the jailer who came to believe.
Who is someone in your life that needs to believe? Who is someone that needs faith that God is…or God can…or God will?
A next step would be to continue to pray for them, but also consider how you could give praise to God the next time to you talk to them. This may be by sharing a story/ testimony of something good that God has done, or even by sending them a worship song that you really like and just saying, “I thought I’d share this song with you that’s really encouraged me.”
